Do I Need a New Water Well?

There will come a time when you need a new water well; these wells do not last forever. King Water Wells can help when this time comes. We can also help extend the life of your existing well with regular maintenance. If your existing well has reached the end of its life, however, you will notice the following signs. These signs also indicate that your well is running dry or the water well pump is not immersed deeply enough in the water. We can inspect your well to determine the exact problem.

Age

The first thing to consider is your water well’s age. If it is 20 years old or older, you are closer to facing the need to replace it. The average lifespan of water wells is 20 to 30 years. They don’t last much longer than this. One big problem with an older water well is that it has mineral scale build-up. It can also be filled with sediment that has settled at the bottom of the well. These things cannot only affect your water well’s performance, but they can also affect the water that is drawn from it.

Funny Tasting Water

For example, if you have a buildup of mineral scale inside your water well, your water may begin to taste funny. It may also taste funny because of the sediment that has settled at the bottom of the well. If your water smells like rotten eggs, it is filled with sulfur and is dangerous to drink. It’s important to have your well water tested annually to make sure that it does not contain any harmful bacteria. If your well water does taste funny, we recommend that you do not drink it.

Murky Water

The sediment in the bottom of the well and the mineral scale can also make your water dirty as it flows out of the faucets. This is also an indication that you do not have enough water in your well. It’s possible that the reduction of water is caused by a well leak if your water well is old. As with funny tasting water, you should not use the well water if it is murky.

Air in the System

Finally, an indication that your water well is too old is air in the system. You will have sputtering faucets when you turn on the water. This can indicate a problem with the water well, low water levels, or a water pump that needs to be submerged deeper into the water.

Call King Water Wells in Rockford, MI, if you are experiencing any of the problems listed above with your water well. We’d be happy to inspect the well and repair or replace it.
